Fitness is ageless – However young or old you are, you must exercise

There are many words in the English language but very few can turn a smile upside down like the word “workout” does. The moment we hear it or its close relative, “exercise,” we all feel like disappearing. It’s because we realize that working out is important but it is boring and difficult, which is why we tend to avoid it.

If you are resonating with us, you are not alone. Most of the people we have spoken to have the same views. We understand your pain, which is why we are going to help you make fitness a part of your life in an easy manner.

Fitness is ageless

When you look at kids running around, playing, and squealing happily, one of the first thoughts is, “ Wow, so energetic!” And, it is true. Kids are always on their toes, engaging in physical activities.

Sadly, that’s not the case with adults. As we age, our lifestyle changes and activity becomes a distant dream. Right from teenage, our focus shifts and our health takes a beating in the process. Our lifestyle becomes more or less inert.

This is why it is crucial to consciously make fitness a part of our routine. Most of us fail to do this because it is overwhelming – who has time to do it every day?

Recommended physical activity

Your workout doesn’t have to be extreme or intense. Even walking regularly has an impact on health. So, if you feel that you are too busy or too old or too young for certain forms of exercise, we have a mantra that works for all ages. It’s called walking.

Walking is low intensity but power-packed exercise that everyone can do right from kids to adults. Even if you have joint conditions such as arthritis or injury-related health problems, you can walk at your own pace and stay active.

For healthy adults, we also recommend swimming, dance, and yoga. All these activities promote good health.

Age-wise physical activity

How much exercise do you need? It all depends on how old you are.

  • 3-5 year old kids need physical activity throughout the day.
  • 6 to 16 year old youngsters need a variety of physical activities at least 3 times a week. One hour sessions every alternate day will do the trick. Besides this, we recommend playing sports that involve running and gymnastics.
  • 17 to 55 year old adults must exercise at least thrice a week (180 minutes total) and make it a point to walk every day.
  • The 55 and above age group can take it slower with 120 minutes of brisk walking and 2 days of physical activity.

The amount of physical activity depends on your health condition. Make sure you consult the doctor for a detailed and specific health plan.

Conclusion

Kids don’t need to exercise because their daily routine involves a lot of physical activity. As adults, you need to make sure that you don’t succumb to a stationary lifestyle by incorporating exercise in some form or the other.

Try out various exercises to find out what suits you the best. The intensity, duration, and form can be tailored based on your health requirements. We also recommend that you speak to your doctor if you have conditions that impair mobility.

Remember – Fitness is not a choice. It is a must.
